Small Purple Flowers Early Spring

Redbuds delight with reddish purple flowers in very early spring, before the heart shaped leaves emerge. Purple deadnettle and henbit are winter annuals.

The plant is called henbit (lamium amplexicaule).

Small purple flowers early spring. They die in late spring and early summer after setting seed. Keep reading to find what early blooming spring flowers you can put. They bloom best with some shade and rich, moist, slightly acid soil.

The fruit is a small capsule a few millimeters long. Henbit’s flower shape is remarkably similar to purple dead nettle’s flower shape. This is most noticeable in the above image — where the flowers are still in bud.

However, there is one obvious difference between the two flowers. This makes sense as they are both in the same genus (lamium). It can grow up to 12 inches or taller and produces purple flowers.

These dainty flowers are spring blooming plants that will add beauty and charm to your garden. Why are the little purple flowers growing in my yard? A closer look at the henbit flowers reveals they, too, are arranged in whorls around the stem.

Grows in wetlands (drying creekbed, in our case). Planted from corms (swollen stem bases, a little like tubers), crocuses also range in size from delicate blooms to more showy versions. Not only do early spring blooming flowers add beauty, they can be helpful in attracting bees and other pollinators to your yard early in the season, which encourages them to make your garden a regular place to visit for them.

Early blooming perennials start producing flowers in spring, which lasts from march through may. Early spring flowers can bring the color and warmth of spring to your garden weeks ahead of schedule. It usually pops up in early spring in lawns, flower & shrub beds.

Announcing the departure of winter with lovely pink, purple, yellow, or white petals, crocuses are one of the best early spring flowers. Winter annuals begin to develop in fall, form a small rosette of leaves that overwinter, and complete their development in spring, forming flowers and seeds.

These tall stemmed flowers will bloom from late spring through early summer and thrive in full sun.
